Country Quota for host Poland – 2012 Silesia Open Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament
The 2012 Silesia Open Tournament is underway in Myslowice, Poland. The tournament got the green light on Tuesday, April 24 and featured Country Quota Playoffs on the opening day.
The host nation played with six duos in CQs and only two teams failed to grab the qualification berths. Two pairs did not have to put any effort for the qualifiers as they earned byes in their respective matches but the other two had to dig up success.
The pairing of Losiak and Kantor became the first team from Poland to go into Wednesday’s Qualification Tournament via CQs. The duo earned a bye and went straight into the next stage of the Silesia Open.
Next up, Kacper Kujawiak/ Alex Andryszewski came into competition with compatriots Kaczmarek/ Pelka. Both teams had good energy and staged a good fight on the centre court. The cracking action of Polish duos continued for 39 minutes and finally Kmiecik-Bernat
bagged 2-0 (21-14, 21-16) victory.
Bernat disclosed his thoughts after the match. He said, “This is not only our first World Tour event, but our first beach volleyball event as well. We started the adventure with beach volleyball last year, so we are happy we can be here. We know we did not
do our best in today's game and our goal is to play as well as we can, as we during training sessions. Today we made only about 20 per cent.”
The next Country Quota Playoff between Kujawiak-Andryszewski and Kaczmarek-Pelka was a complete thriller. It was hotly-contested match, where the two teams stayed incredibly close on the scoreboard. Both sides showed great fighting spirit and created a whole
lot of entertainment for home audience. The match finished in two sets but situation remained undecided until the final whistle of referee.
Andryszewski started things off in the opening frame of the match with top class serves. He took bigger run-ups and supplied plenty of power to the ball. The opponent duo had a difficult time to deal with the speed bombs produced by Andryszewski and Kujawiak.
As the game progressed the tandem of Kaczmarek/Pelka also picked up pace. They tackled many difficult shots and counter-attacked. The score frequently tied and both sides traded the lead. Eventually, Kujawiak-Andryszewski got lucky to put an end to the tussle
with a fine kill and claimed first set, 22-20.
The following set had some sort of symmetry with the previous set. Long rallies were exchanged and spectators moved back ‘n’ forth in the seats. Kaczmarek-Pelka struggled to save the match but could not avoid defeat. Kujawiak-Andryszewski posted 23-21 in
second set and settled for 2-0 victory.
Makowski-Popek also joined the Qualification Tournament by earning a bye.
