i want to go to a country on holiday that has good animal welfare. For example i wont go to spain and hated Greece cause of all the stray animals and lack of provision for animals (was a few years ago but has it changed?).

Was thinking of Turkey? Does anyone have any recommendations?

  1. As a muslim country they are not going to worry at all about stray cats and dogs.  Don't think there's anywhere I've been that doesn't have strays.

  2. Now I've heard everything. You don't have to live there, so what difference does animal welfare make? Pick a country that takes good care of it's people. Or do what everyone else does and go somewhere that has fun things to do.

  3. If you want the same standards roughly as the UK then it is more or less northern Europe (also North America, Australia New Zealand).

If you would prefer somewhere a bit warmer then France and Italy (perhaps not the far south) are generally OK. They don't have the same attitude to animals as us, but in general they are not cruel to their pets and you don't see packs of feral dogs or too many stray cats. The French in particular are mad about their dogs and take them everywhere with them. There is a population of feral cats living in the Coloseum in Rome, but people donate money for feeding them and they live a pretty good life.

When it comes to Turkey - there are not many dogs. There are plenty of stray cats but the Turkish people are kind and where I visited most of the restaurants fed them and you could leave money with the local florist if you wanted and she fed them over the winter. They lived to a good age - some of them were there year after year. That was Dalyan, not a big resort, just a small town. Turkey is a secular state by the way and doesn't follow Islamic law.

Of course, we don't always have the best animal welfare here despite fairly strict legislation.

  4. Jesus Christ, it's a holiday- lighten up.

  5. Turkey, are you for real, if you thought it was bad in Greece, and its really bad, then go to turkey, where its against islamic law to have a dog

And far a good suggestion goes well in the uk Animals have more rites than people, try there

  6. Probably countries that are in the EU. Animal welfare is secondary in most countries where survival is a struggle. So sticking to countries that would be considered "first world" is probably your best bet.

Spain in my experience, with the exception of bull fighting, had decent animal welfare. I did not feel that I saw many stray animals during the 3 months that I was there.

Portugal might be a nice spot. They have bull fighting but they do not kill the bulls there. Ireland, England, Norway etc would probably also be nice, though not nearly as warm!

  7. sweden

"Sweden already has stringent animal welfare legislation, which includes research animals."

prob best to avoid france, they eat anything that moves, and they eat every part of anything that moves lol
