Kent 17/5 (9.4 ov) v Essex - Essex won the toss and elected to field
On Wednesday, the County Championship Division Two, four-day match between Kent and Essex had to end prematurely due to heavy showers allowing only 9.4 overs to be bowled on the first day of play.

However, fans at County Ground, Chelmsford, did witness an amazing match comprised of a few overs as Kent, who were put into bat by Essex lost five wickets before the abrupt end of play, giving spectators plenty of action.
The batting side seemed ill prepared to face the Essex bowlers under overcast conditions, however, the fielding side knew exactly what to do even before the match, which was evident by the decision of Essex skipper, JS Foster, who chose to give his bowlers a first go at the batsmen, knowing very well that it would be hard for the batsmen to play in humid and cold weather.

By this time it was evident that the bowlers were ruling supreme, making it extremely difficult for the batsmen to hit the ball.
The fielding side struck gold when in the sixth over they nabbed the wicket of RWT Key, who took a long walk off the field after scoring a run.

However, he also failed to stay on the wicket long enough to cause any serious damage, leaving the side on nine runs.
Kent had posted only 17 runs before rain started pouring really hard, causing the match to be called off.
From Essex, CM Willoughby, was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets to his name as he was unplayable on the first day of the fixture.
