Question:

County Meath has no dog pound. Have you had problems finding a dog lost there?

As Meath has no pound stray and surrendered dogs are kept in a sanctuary from where they are transferred to Dundalk Pound in County Louth. Largely they are destroyed in Dundalk 5 days after they have been found.

Dundalk pound is many miles from the far Meath border and that Meath dogs are taken there is frequently not known by Meath residents. Thus there are concerns that Meath strays are put to sleep because of this lack of knowledge and also as those without the funds and transport cannot get to Dundalk.

I am trying to raise awareness of this and urge Meath Council to provide a pound of for residents of the county. (There is a pound in Meath but it does not serve Meath dogs!).

Any information from those who have lost a dog in Meath or had their lost dog put to sleep in Dundalk pound would be very helpful. Thank you.

  2. Hello Miranda,

Your question has really hit me, right in my dog loving heart. My initial reaction is to ask you why don't you start a dog pound as youre own business, I can't see Meath County Council objecting to your proposal, and they may even help you to get it going too. You will need AVeterinarian contact, and of course dog kennels, heated, in winter cool in summer, Talk also to your bank, ands try to get yourself set up as a charity, Dog lovers from all over our country will appreciate what you are doing, and may even help you to get it all off the ground, and out of town, so people will come to see the rescued dogs, and will pay you good cash for them, even if they owned them in the first place.

Then if you fancy the Vet enough you could Marry him and that would reduce that cost for you immediately, you should ask more questions about setting up a Dog Rescue Mission, and Fund Raising issues for the same. Miuranda, I know it's all a bit pie in the sky just yet, but you know in your own heart, that you would never put a well animal to sleep, but if they are really sick, well that's the oher side of the business, and a vet would take that heartbreak out of your hands.....Oh I hope you get some idea from my answer, but just now Miranda, it really is the best one I have, and not a man in the world loves dogs more than me, if I say so myself.. Good Luck with this problem Miranda...Bye Tony M..
