Coupe De Ville to scoop the seasonal debut through the £250,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy at Newmarket
Newmarket will become home for the £250,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy over a mile and two furlongs on Thursday, 19th April. The race carries a £135,275 purse and has attracted a line-up of fourteen three-year-old thoroughbreds.
None among the line-up has raced at Newmarket ever since the new season shot off let alone posting a victory through a race at Newmarket.
Coupe De Ville, Clodovil’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Fantastic Account, has raced at Newmarket thrice during the previous season and has won twice. He will be stepping into the seasonal debut today.
His first try ever attempt at the race course was on 18th June 2011 in the Newbuild Frames Maiden Stake over seven furlongs which he won by leading the runner up of the race, Mehdi, by two and a half lengths. The 11/4 joint favourite was coupled
with Pat Dobbs.
Right Regal ended third while the other joint favourite, Ex Oriente, parked thirteenth on the line-up of fifteen.
After winning two more races, one at Newbury and the other at Salisbury, Coupe De Ville bagged a hat trick and then strode on for the next try at Newmarket on 17th September.
The 4/1 favourite of the race, Coupe De Ville, finished fifth in the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy over seven furlongs. Tell Dad won the race while riding with Richard Mullen and had Alkazim settling as the runner up by staying adrift
by 2 ¾ lengths.
Mehdi concluded the race third behind the winner.
On 1st October, Coupe De Ville did not fall victim to the deceiving speed of Tell Dad for a second time and led by a length with Richard Hughes onboard. Mehdi once again held on to the third position behind the winner.
The 9/4 favourite of the race, Entifaadha, ended fifth on the line-up of sixteen.
Besides Coupe De Ville, another entry to consider is the three-year-old Ellaal who has two career races on his profile and those too at Newmarket, a second score and then a victory.
He won the Sterling Solutions maiden Stakes (Colts & Geldings) on 19th October over seven furlongs. It was a very narrow victory that had to be taken away from Mahmood Al Zarooni’s charge, Periphery, by a short head’s margin.
