Coupe de la Ligue: Lille continue to winning ways while Saint-Etienne lose at home
Lyon go on
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 continued with their remarkable away from home record against bitter rivals AS Saint-Etienne when they won 2-1 at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in a Coupe de la Ligue round of 16 clash.
Saint-Etienne have never beaten their Rhone neighbours in a cup tie and the chances were dealt a severe blow when French striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jimmy-Briand-c18553 gave the visitors a well deserved lead with just five minutes left to half time.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kim-c20955 Kallstrom’s freekick ricochet off the wall was met by Briand who put the ball beyond Les Verts goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier.
In the second half, Les Gones pushed forward in search of a goal that would end the game as a contest. Alexander Lacazette was lively throughout the first half and the 20-year-old was brought down in the penalty area by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulão-c29407. The contact was minimum and
the decision by referee M. Turpin enraged the Saint-Etienne crown who started throwing projectiles on the pitch.
This caused a slight delay in the proceedings. However, the situation was soon controlled and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Bastos-c25461 converted the resulting penalty kick to give Lyon a two-goal cushion in the 68th minute of the game.
On loan AC Milan striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pierre-c29989 Emerick Aubameyang gave the home side some hope of getting back into the game when he scored in the 82nd minute. However, Les Gones showed their superiority and experience by defending resolutely and did not take
any risks in the final minutes of the game.
The recent meeting between the two sides is not the last as Lyon will host their bitter rivals on Saturday in a Ligue 1 encounter.
Lille win again
Les Dogues carried on with their winning streak when they beat Sedan at the Stade Metropole. Summer signing Benoit Pedretti put the hosts in front in the 34 minute and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694 continued his revival by scoring the second goal for Lille in the 39th
minute. It was the on loan from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 midfielder’s second goal in as many games.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ireneusz-Jelen-c17008 was in fine form for Rudi Garcia’s side and scored the third goal for Lille in the 70th minute. Though Sedan themselves got a goal through a penalty by Abdoulay Diaby in the 80th minute, Lille would keep hold of the game
to progress to the quarterfinals of the cup.
Sochaux crash out
A brace from striker Xavier Pentecote in the 38th and 56th minute was enough to take Nice to the quarterfinals of the Coupe de la Ligue at the expense of Sochaux. Abdoulaye http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camara-c8277 scored a goal for Les Lionceaux but the goal turned
out to be a mere consolation.
