Couple of Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts players to miss Pro Bowl game – NFL News
A couple of players from the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts who had been picked for the Pro Bowl game to be played on Sunday, 29, 2012, have opted out of the event on family grounds.
Both teams are regular contributors to the Pro Bowl game, an event bringing the top notch players from the teams around the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC) to fight off the competition.
Many of their top players are in line to play the weekend game. They include Ravens’ running back, Ray Rice, and Colts defensive end, Robert Mathis. Both of them, according to the latest announcement by the team’s managements, have opted out of the game
just a couple of days before its schedule.
Nothing much has been elaborated by the team on their all of sudden excuse from playing the game. Apparently, the players have decided to remain absent from the team due to some family issues.
The Pro Bowl event is held almost a week before the National Football League’s (NFL) mega event of Super Bowl.
Super Bowl is being played between the New England Patriots and New York Giants in the Indianapolis on Sunday, February 5, 2012.
The New England Patriots are through to Super Bowl after beating the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants made it to the game for having defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
All teams around the NFL contribute their top notch players to the Pro Bowl game every year. Almost all players from the Baltimore Ravens including the running back, Rice, have played the game before.
Many more are due to play this year, and according to the team’s announcement, Ray Rice will not be joining them this year.
Ray Rice is one of the leading players at the Ravens who have played a role in another successful NFL run. The team has finished atop the AFC North, claimed the divisional title, and were through to the AFC championship game.
They lost the game to the New England Patriots with a close margin of three points on Sunday, January 22, 2012. The final score was 20 to 23 points with the game to the Patriots. This ended their hopes of reaching the Super Bowl.
Despite that Pro Bowl event does not have as higher standing as the Super Bowl, the players’ selection in the Pro Bowl teams positively affects their standings and rating stature.
A player who plays the Pro Bowl more than once is rated better on the league. The Pro Bowl is the famous synonym along with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) that is often added before the elaboration of players’ worth and game stature in a team.
Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning, is amongst the players who have made it to a Pro Bowl team most of the time.
