  1. I'm not sure about the filter....but the digging is going to depend on what kind of soil you have in your area. If it's sandy loam....you'll be able to complete the dig fairly easy. If it black clay or gumbo as we call it....it will takes days if not weeks. If that gumbo is to dry it take a pick ax to dig in it...if it's too wet it sticks to the shovel and is hard to get it off. I have seem yards in my area of town that are built over lime stone....there 8 inches of dirt over the top....then solid rock below...no way to dig through it unless you have a jack hammer.

As far as the Koi go....run an ad in your local paper asking for some Koi for your pond. Some people have too many and are willing to get rid of a few...that what I did. I paid $5 for some almost a foot long...some I got free.

  2. Will expect to be digging for at least one month.  I would suggest renting rotter tiller this will take about two weeks off of your digging time and make things a lot easier.  The filter you have ordered has high rating. I would buy fish local.

    Good Luck

  3. skip the fish for this year.... your pond will need time to reach a balance before you introduce fish.... plants you can have.... in fact you'll need a LOT of surface cover to avoid an algae problem.... but you might expect at least one algae bloom... we all get them, with a new pond.... once it's in balance you'll be able to introduce fish and not have to remove them to 'fix' the water over and over again....

  4. tetra pond filter is good filter if you got only low stock of koi.  If your pond got many kois in it you need to build your own filter chamber.  because these type of filter is too small but efficient in doing their task but you have to keep on cleaning the filter since its not big enough for heavy populated koi pond. The advantage in this you don't have to customized your filter the downside you should keep on checking it if it is already full of waste.

6 hours a day digging alone for a 4000 gallons of pond will take time unless you got a machine to help you dig.  To make your job easier dig half and high rise the other half if you are planning to have a concrete pond.

buying kois don't buy koi for the sake of having it buy koi types that you really love there are lots of varieties of koi buying koi online might be easier but buying it in the stores and choosing the best of the best feels different.  One thing quarantine your new fishes before introducing them in your pond to avoid headaches.  Inorder to save money buy kois at 6 inches they will grow fast in outdoor pond.
