Coupon codes at checkout?

hey i wanna get a coupon code for jcpenney's but i dont want to order online.i was wondering if you can give the code to the person at the checkout and will it still work or are they strictly for online shopping. thanks for helping. :o)

The codes are for online purchases, sometimes they do have coupons you can print out to use at the store/
