Courageous Cat made the favourite to win, as the Woodbine Mile draws a field of 12
Field of 12 is declared for the Grade 1 $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile at Woodbine race course on 18 September, 2011, in Toronto and this deep and diverse lineup has a favourite called, Courageous Cat, who has been headlined as the 3 to 1 choice to win the
race.
The Spendthrift Farm’s new acquisition, Court Vision is also among the favourites to make an impact on the race, because he currently is the defending Woodbine Mile champion.
Pam and Martin Wygod owned 5-year-old horse, Courageous Cat will be looking to extend his winning streak, which now consists of 2 wins out of 2 starts.
The Bill Mott trained, Courageous Cat started off the season with a fantastic win in the Grade 3 Poker at Belmont Park on 10 June, 2011. Under jockey J Lezcano, Courageous Cat went on to defeat Yield Bogey and Right One in the final strides to top the one
mile distance in 1 minute and 36.69 seconds.
However, the Storm Cat horse is coming into the race fresh off a win in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile over Hollywood Park’s turf course on 2 July, 2011, edging past Caracortado and Victor’s Cry to cover the 1 mile distance in 1 minute and 33.19 seconds.
The European invaders, the likes of Side Glance has been sent off as the 4 to 1 favourite, but it’s important to keep an eye on Side Glance, because he has really been rolling along in mile turf races in Europe this season.
With a consistent record of 6 wins, twice runner up and three times rolled in third out of 14 starts in England, Side Glance will look to dominate the field over his favoured distance.
Dance and Dance already had a heated battle with Side Glance in the Group 3 Totepool Sovereign Stakes on 14 August, 2011, at Salisbury, where the two finished a neck apart, with Side Glance winning the race.
The Woodbine based horse, Riding the River, could also be the one to watch, since he has been doing very well over the Woodbine turf course, and recently he was a second in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes on 28 August.
Woodbine Mile is also part of the Breeders’ Cup series “Win and You’re In” program, and the winner of the race will get an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs this November.
