Courageous Cat turned in his final workout at Saratoga, and looks all set for the Woodbine Mile at Woodbine
Two of two in as many starts this year, Courageous Cat is set to take on his rivals at Woodbine, when he competes in the one mile, Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on 18 September, 2011.
The 5-year-old probable favourite is at Saratoga where he is preparing for his next assignment, and on the morning of 11 September, he turned in his final workout.
The son of Storm Cat out of Tranquility Lake by Rahy, Courageous Cat breezed for five furlongs, and covered the distance in 59.95 seconds on the Saratoga turf course.
According to trainer William Mott, Courageous Cat has been working well, and on assessing his final workout session he said that he was off easy without a stutter and finished up well in the end.
Recently coming off a win in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Hollywood Park on 2 July, 2011, Courageous Cat held off his closest rival Caracortado in the final strides to win the $300,000 event.
The win in the Hollywood Park’s turf featured race, earned the Martin Wygod and Pam Wygod 5-year-old horse a spot in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Courageous Cat started the season very late and prior to the Shoemaker Mile win, the horse kicked off his late season in the Grade 3 Poker, held at Belmont Park turf course on 10 June, 2011.
It was a season starter and on his favoured distance of a mile, Courageous Cat was always going to take something positive out of the race to keenly hold it for the rest of the season.
He went on to nail the race, surprising his opponents as he landed the Grade 3 Poker defeating Yield Bogey and Right One to cover the one mile distance in 1 minute and 36.69 seconds.
Courageous Cat would be facing off with 11 or 12 rivals in the $1 million Woodbine Mile for 3-year-olds and above.
The Grade 3 Poker rival and 3rd place finisher, Right One is also a part of the Woodbine Mile line-up, and also the last year Woodbine Mile winner Court Vision will be there as well.
