it was based on a silly misdemeanor (breaking an exit sign... it was an accident, and i paid for it already)

anyhow... i showed up today like i was supposed to, but the police station didn't send the paperwork... so now they want me to come back.... this was a big freaking hassle today and now im forced to do it again which is no fault of my own.

Should the case be thrown out? What are my rights?

thank you :)

  1. He who represents himself in court has a fool for a lawyer. Should have gotten a lawyer.

  2. No you can't get the case thrown out.  Courts reschdule all the time.

Breaking an Exit sign....you must be the incredible Hulk or was it your car totally out of control....

  3. Yes it should have been thrown out, but they want that MONEY.  Do you have an attorney, if not you should get one.

  4. > wouldn't a lawyer cost more than the potential fine?

Maybe, but it depends on how you value your time and the hassle you describe.

Had you paid the lawyer, you probably would not have to go back because s/he would have known the magic words to say to the judge.

You can still hire a lawyer for next time!

BTW, you didn't even say if the case is criminal or civil...

  5. NO! A silly crime is still a crime and you have to face the judge.
