Question:

Court appearance Vs Insurance Points?

Is going to court and paying the possibly high court fees etc, worth the money to have a clean record?

The other option is to pay the fine and get two points on the record, which will raise the insurance rate. Which of the two evils is better?

FYI, The offense in question is Careless Driving (NJ). The driver has to speed up only to pass an 18 wheeler on a two lane highway when the broken line was on his side.

He has a court appearance today. What should he tell the judge?

  1. He should dress neatly.  He should look the judge right in the eye and say, "Guilty, your honor.  I'm sorry this happened and I assure you I will be much more careful in the future".
