Courtney Bartholomew wins Girls 100yard back-stroke gold – Michigan Girls State Championships

Courtney Bartholomew of Holland High School acquired gold medal of Girls 100yard back-stroke in Division 2 at the 2011 Michigan High School State Championships on Saturday, November 19.
The 12-year-old Bartholomew demonstrated her smothering efforts in the back-stroke playoff. She seized the title of 100yard discipline by reporting a time of 51.99 seconds for gold medal. With her crown wining effort, she remained 0.46 seconds under her
own Division 2 mark of 52.45 seconds made by Bartholomew in 2010.
Her gold wining efforts also improved the All Class mark of 52.34 seconds with a difference of 0.35 seconds. The champion was followed by Alexandra M DeLoof of GP South High School, who was 2.69 seconds behind and touched the finishing wall with a timing
of 54.68 seconds.
The 12-year-old DeLoof was followed by her team-member Gabrielle M DeLoof, who was nearly two seconds behind her former finisher and clocked a time of 56.99 seconds for bronze medal.
The fourth fastest spot was claimed by Alex Hoiles of FH Central High School, who was 0.23 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end with a timing of 57.22 seconds.
Hoiles was chased by Madison Umberger of Portage Central High School, who completed her swim in a fifth fastest time of 57.38 seconds. Subsequently, Annie Lazor of Birmingham Groves High School obtained the title of 100yard breast-stroke discipline by producing
a time of 1 minute and 02.43 seconds.
The 12-year-old Lazor was chased by Melissa Vandermeulen of Holland High School, who remained considerably slower than the gold medallist and concluded her swim in a second fastest time of 1 minute and 04.39 seconds.
The 11-year-old Vandermeulem remained 0.92 seconds ahead of Natalie Pierce of Birmingham Seaholm High School, who secured the podium for bronze medal with a nice timing of 1 minute and 05.31 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot was earned by Kristen Finney of Rochester Adams High School who ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 06.06 seconds.
Furthermore, medals were awarded to all podium finisher for their impeccable efforts after the session.
