Courtney Conlogue and Coco Ho qualify for quarter-finals at Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012
America’s Courtney Conlogue and Hawaii’s Coco Ho managed to earn their place in the quarter-finals at Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012, the latest stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, after claiming top honours in their respective
Round 4 heats that went down at La Grande Plage in Biarritz, France, on Saturday, July 14.
Conlogue got the better of her fellow countryperson Lakey Peterson in the first heat to move into the next stage of the competition, eliminating her rival from the contention for the event title in the process.
Australia’s Rebecca Woods failed to hold his own against Ho in the second heat, consequently getting eliminated from the competition while sending her rival into the quarter-finals.
With the top female surfers from around the world going at each other in challenging surfing conditions, there seemed to be plenty of action and surprises in store on what was expected to be the final day of the competition.
The opening heat saw Conlogue, current ASP Women’s World No. 5, face Peterson in a battle for survival. Both the surfers had failed to make much of an impact during their previous heat and thus found themselves in a desperate situation.
As the battle got underway, Conlogue got down to business right away and posted a 6.33 on the score-board to instantly put her rival under pressure. After a long and determined search, she added an additional 5.07 points to her account, finishing with a
heat-total of 11.40 points.
Peterson responded with a couple of waves in the four-point range, thus finishing with a resultant heat-total of 9.50 points. As a result, she was forced to concede victory and thus the quarter-final spot to Conlogue.
The next heat featured a pretty one-sided contest as Ho squared-off with Woods in a battle for the quarter-final spot. Despite showing a rather inconsistent form since the start of the competition, the Hawaiian surfer came down hard on her rival. After going
through a series of average wave scores, she got her hands on a 7.17-point ride and soon backed it up with a 4.50-point wave to finish with a heat-total of 11.67 points.
Woods struggled to find her rhythm throughout the course of the battle and only managed to get to a heat-total of 8.77 points, which included a 3.87 and 4.90-point wave.
The thrilling surfing action continued at La Grande Plague with the remaining quarter-finals of Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012.
