Courtney Conlogue and Paige Hareb advance into ASP 6-Star Swatch Girls Pro France
Courtney Conlogue from America and Paige Hareb from New Zealand walked away with top honours from their respective semi-final heats at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Swatch Girls Pro France that continued at the main venue of Les Bourdaines
in Seignosse, France, on Saturday, June 2.
Conlogue bare got the better of her compatriot Sage Erickson in the first semi-final to advance through earn herself a title shot, removing her rival from the competition in the process.
The second semi-final saw Hareb down Hawaii’s Leila Hurst to confirm her place in the final, while bringing the latest ASP women’s star event to a premature end for her rival.
With some of the best female talent from around the world taking each other on in high-performance surfing conditions at Les Bourdaines, the fans were treated to a series of exquisite performances and memorable action. The final day of the competition kicked-off
in two-to-three foot wind-affect waves, offering an ideal stage for the surfers to go all out to get their hands on the event title.
The first semi-final pitted Conlogue against Erickson in a battle for the title shot. Both the surfers had been exhibiting performance since the very first day of the competition and were expected to deliver an exciting performance during their latest challenge.
As the battle got underway, Conlogue got down to business early in the heat, scoring a 6.33 off her first business-wave to grab an early lead. She cemented the lead even further with an impressive 7.17-point ride, moving to a resultant heat-total of 13.50
points.
Hareb and Hurst took each other on in the second semi-final, equally determined to advance through into the final stage of the competition.
The encounter between the two in-form surfers turned out to be a low-scoring affair, with both the surfers struggling to get their hands on a couple of decent scores.
As the heat kicked-off, Hareb charged towards a relatively promising wave in the opening minutes to attempt a series of quick turns. The effort earned an average score of 5.00 from the judges, putting her in an early lead. As the heat progressed, she went
on to add an additional 4.33 points to her accounts, thus moving to a heat-total of 9.33 points.
Hurst did not have much luck with the waves either and therefore failed to pose a serious threat to her rival throughout the course of the battle. Scoring a 4.23 off her first business-wave and backing it up with a 4.83-point ride, the Hawaiian surfer finished
with a heat-total of 9.06 points, 0.27 points short of the required score. As a result, she was forced to surrender victory and thus a spot in the final to Hareb.
