Courtney Conlogue defeats Paige Hareb to claim ASP 6-Star Swatch Girls Pro France Title
America’s Courtney Conlogue took out the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Swatch Girls Pro France after claiming victory New Zealand’s Paige Hareb in the final that went down at the main venue of Les Bourdaines in Seignosse, France, on Saturday,
June 2.
The American sensation put on a superb performance in the final stage of the latest ASP women’s star event to claim the crown.
“It’s definitely really cool to win the Swatch event” commented Conlogue. “They did such a great job this whole week. I had so much fun at this contest this year it’s probably one of my favourite contests right now. Yesterday’s beach activities I think probably
amped me up to kick butt today!”
Since the very first day of the competition, the 19-year-old Conlogue had been exhibiting an intimidating form. She adapted exceptionally well to the surfing conditions prevailing at the primary event site and exhibited immense consistency to follow one
characteristic performance with another.
With some of the top surfing talents from around the globe in contention for the event title, the road to final had not been an easy one for the American young-gun, but she held on to her confidence and smoothly made her way through the early rounds, quarter-finals
and semi-finals to reach the final.
Reaching the final stage of the competition, Conlogue found herself pitted against Hareb, another in-form surfer.
Currently ranked fourth on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, Conlogue stepped into the final as a strong favourite.
As the battle got underway, the young Californian wasted very little time in gaining control of the heat. Navigated her way through the two-to-three foot wind-affected waves, she posted an 8.83 on the score-board. Keeping the momentum going, she went on
to add another 7.00 points to her account, thus reaching a heat-total of 15.83 points.
Hareb did not get off to the best of starts, but showed a bit of promise halfway through the heat to post a 6.00 on the score-board. She made a desperate effort in the later stages of the heat to add an additional 7.33 points to her account, moving to a
combined wave-score of 13.33 points. The 2.50-point deficit forced her to surrender victory and thus the event title to Conlogue.
The current year is turning out to be a memorable one for Conlogue, who has been making waves in nearly every event that she has competed in.
