Courtney Conlogue jumps into Round 3 of TSB Bank NZ Surf Festival featuring the Dow AgroSciences Pro
America’s Courtney Conlogue managed to claim top honours during her Round 1 heat of the TSB Bank NZ Surf Festival featuring the Dow AgroSciences Pro, third of seven stops on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, which went
down at Fitzroy Beach in Taranaki, New Zealand, on Wednesday, April 11.
The American surfer got the better of France’s Pauline Ado as well as Peru’s Sofia Mulanovich during the sixth heat of Round 1 to jump straight into the third round without having to surf in Round 2. Ado and Mulanovich, on the other hand, got relegated to
the second round after finishing in second and third place respectively.
There was plenty of action in store for the surfing fans as the prestigious ASP Top 17 female surfers resumed their ASP Women’s World Tour campaign for the coveted World Title. The surfing conditions prevailing at the event site turned out to be quite promising
as well, offering two-to-three foot lefts and rights at the beach to give the surfers sufficient opportunity to put their stylish skills and surfing prowess on display.
Pitted against Ado and Mulanovich in the sixth heat of Round 1, Conlogue sure had her hands full. The battle for victory and thus Round 3 was expected to be intense considering the potential of the three surfers.
As the heat kicked-off, Conlogue got off to a slow start, taking her time to adjust to the waves and wind. As the heat progressed, she gradually began to build momentum, showing more aggression with every passing minute. Almost halfway through the heat,
she locked her first business-wave to unload a series of stylish manoeuvres, earning a 7.50 for the effort. After another short search, she managed to add an additional 7.65 points to her account to take her heat-total to 15.15 points. The score held up until
the end of the battle to see her through into the third round.
Ado was forced to settle for second place after getting a couple of scores in the six-point range to finish with a heat-total of 12.50 points.
Mulanovich received an interference call almost halfway through the heat for riding a wave on her rival’s priority. With a heat-total of 8.70 points, she rounded out the third position.
