Courtney Cook acquires gold medal of Girl’s 100-yard freestyle: 2011 WPSC Holiday Sprints
Courtney S Cook of CAGO-NI displayed her scintillating efforts by clinching gold medal of the 100-yard freestyle in Girl’s 15 and above category at the 2011 Whitney Point Swim Club (WPSC) Holiday Sprints on December 29, 2011.
The 16-year-old Cook continued her reign by overwhelming efforts of her opponents in the 100-yard event. Cook, who already grabbed gold medal of the 50-yard freestyle, stayed considerably ahead of her challengers in the 100-yard discipline.
With her impeccable strokes and magnificent dive, she earned substantial lead over her competitors in the first lap. Samantha S Goble of WAAC-NI and Samantha P Burnett of UNAC-NI tried hard to compete with her in the first round, but they were unable to
withstand Cook’s ruthless efforts.
With her persistent efforts, Cook completed her initial round of the race with a fastest timing of 26.32 seconds. She remained 2.41 seconds faster from her closest competitor, Goble, who ended her first half with a timing of 28.73 seconds. The 15-year-old
Goble was chased by Burnett, who was just 0.10 seconds slower in the first round and posted a time of 28.83 seconds.
The battle continued in the second half, where Cook elevated her efforts to cement her place on the medal rostrum for gold medal. With her continued struggle, she not only won gold medal of the event, but she also improved the age group mark of the race
by submitting a time of 55.00 seconds.
She was followed by Goble, who stayed 4.97 seconds slower than the champion and emerged on the finishing wall with a timing of 59.97 seconds for silver medal. In the meantime, the crowd witnessed a laudable effort of Burnett, who seized third fastest spot
of the event. She remained 0.15 seconds slower than the second position holder and ended her swim with timing of 1 minute and 00.12 seconds for bronze medal.
Cook expressed happiness after winning her second gold medal of the session whereas the spectators admired frenzy efforts of all participants. In addition, the winners collected their accolades at the medal ceremony after the completion of all scheduled
events.
