Courtney Lawes injured and out for the season – Rugby News Update
Courtney Lawes, the 6’7 23-year-old player of the Northampton Saints and England has been ruled out of the remainder of the season, and his hopes of playing in South Africa have also been dashed. He was hoping tour South Africa for a three-match test series,
after he missed the Six Nations tournament through injury. However, it seems that his shin injury will keep him sidelined.
Jim Mallinder, the coach of Northampton confirmed the news, adding that he will play no further part in the Saints’ push for a Premiership title. While speaking with BBC Northampton, he said, "We were hoping he might play some part this season but it's looking
like he has not quite recovered enough from his shin injury, so it looks like he'll probably not play for the remainder of this season for Saints or for England."
Lawes broke through the junior ranks at Northampton, having grown up around the area. His powerful frame earned him Under-19 and Under-20 call ups, before he was promoted to the England Saxon’s team by Martin Johnson in 2009. His excellent performances earned
him a debut for the national team.
He made his debut for England against Australia at Twickenham in 2009. However, injuries have not been kind to him and he missed the 2011 Six Nations tournament, but he recovered to represent England in the rugby World Cup that happened in the same year.
Mallinder explained that Lawes needs to concentrate on getting fully fit ahead of the new season, and he said, "He has been a bit unfortunate, but what he has got to do is have a good off-season, make sure his body fully recovers, then train hard for us
in pre-season and I am sure actually then he will come back fighting fit.”
Lawes has endured a horrible 2011-2012 season, suffering with injuries repeatedly. He played his last international match for England against Wales in the 2012 Six Nations tournament.
In his fledging career so far, Lawes has played 14 times for England, starting 9 of those games, while 5 of those appearances have come as a substitute. He will focus on achieving full fitness ahead of the season and would want to add further England test
caps.
