Courtney Parenti grabs Women’s 500yard freestyle gold: Day two – NJCAA, Florida
Courtney Parenti of Indian River State College grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 500yard freestyle on second day of the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association in Fort Pierce, Florida at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex on Thursday, March 8.
The 19-year-old Parenti devastated hopes of her challengers, who were eyeing the title of distant freestyle event. With her laudable efforts, she earned her way to the top of podium for gold medal by posting a time of 5 minutes and 00.04 seconds.
Her nerve-wrecking form remained almost seven seconds slower from the NJCAA mark of 4 minutes and 53.48 seconds, made by Gwen Cross of Broward CC in 1983.
The champion remained 1.40 seconds ahead of her teammate, Hallie Petersohn, who settled on the finishing end for silver medal by completing her swim in a time of 5 minutes and 01.44 seconds.
The third spot of the event was obtained by Sophie Drake of DSC, who was nearly two seconds slower from Petersohn and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 5 minutes and 03.11 seconds.
Subsequently, Bryan Clarke of Indian River State snatched gold medal of the Men’s equivalent event. The 20-year-old Clarke remained in a lead of almost half body length over his subsequent competitor and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by posting
a time of 4 minutes and 33.46 seconds.
Clarke’s scintillating form remained nearly eleven seconds slower from the mark of 4 minutes and 22.17 seconds, owned by Mateo DeAngulo of Indian River SC from 2009.
He was chased by Takashi Worrell of DSC, who stayed 1.31 seconds slower from him on the finishing blockade and seized second fastest spot of the event by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 34.77 seconds.
Worrell was chased by his teammate, Dominic Walter, who ended his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 35.36 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events whereas the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for their magnificent efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
