Courtney Weaver and Eric Forrester lift 50m butterfly titles: Day four – YMCA Long Course Nationals
Courtney Weaver and Eric Forrester won the titles of 50m butterfly meet in the Women’s and Men’s category respectively, on day four of the 2011 Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Long Course Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 15-year-old Weaver of Gr. Flint-MI presented an astounding swim in the butterfly meet and claimed the title of the event, by submitting an effort of 28.05 seconds. Her effort was 0.78 seconds above the national record of 27.27 seconds, set by Becca Weiland
of Stevens Point-WI in 2009.
She was followed by Maddie Zimmerman of UpperMainLine-PA, who remained only 0.30 seconds slower than Weaver and reached the podium for second position, with a timing of 28.35 seconds. The 15-year-old Zimmerman was followed by Brandywine-De’s Elise Lankiewicz,
who remained just 0.21 seconds behind the second position holder and occupied the podium for the third position, by reporting in a time of 28.56 seconds.
The bronze medallist was 0.03 seconds away from her closest swimmer, Caitlin Casazza of Northwest-NC, who concluded her sprint in a fourth best time of 28.59 seconds. Bailie Monahan of Rappahannock-VA was the fifth fastest swimmer of the race, as she stayed
0.01 seconds behind Casazza and posted a time of 28.60 seconds. Tori Oslund of W. North Carolina was the sixth finest swimmer to complete her single-lap swim, as she stayed 0.13 seconds away from Monahan and reported a time of 28.73 seconds.
In the Men’s equivalent event, the 18-year-old Forrester of Mon Valley-PA clinched the title of 50m swim, by submitting an effort of 25.54 seconds. His time was 1.36 seconds ahead of the national mark of 24.18 seconds, made by Tim Phillips of Marietta-OH
in 2009.
He was trailed by Joseph Connors of Red Bank - NJ, who stayed only 0.36 seconds behind the champion swimmer and produced a time of 25.86 seconds. Joshua Nordike of Fayette-IL stayed only 0.01 seconds behind Connors and followed him on the victory stand for
the bronze medal, by posting a time of 25.87 seconds.
Andrew Yunker of Gr. Flint-MI and Eric Lethander of Powel Crosley-OH surfaced as the fourth and fifth fastest swimmers, as they concluded their swims in a time of 25.94 and 26.04 seconds, respectively. Austin Wolff of New Canaan-CT transpired as the sixth
fastest swimmer of the event, as he remained only 0.05 seconds away from the fifth fastest finisher and clocked a time of 26.09 seconds.
In addition, the arena enjoyed the gruelling efforts of all participating swimmers in the one-lap swim, whereas, the podium winners collected awards and accolades for their tremendous swims in the session.
