Courtney Weaver claims Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – YMCA National LC Championship
Courtney Weaver of Gr. Flint-MI claimed gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Wednesday, July 25.
Weaver smothered her opponents in the double lap butterfly discipline, as she showed no signs of slowing down and transpired on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With her epic pace, she remained two arm-strokes ahead of her following swimmer and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 00.22 seconds for the title of the discipline.
The gold medallist was followed by Haley Lips of Middle Tyger-SC, who remained 0.36 seconds apart and snared second fastest spot of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.58 seconds.
The 18-year-old Lips was chased by Eli Lankiewicz of Brandywine-De, who stayed two body lengths apart and occupied bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 02.21 seconds.
Lankiewicz was trailed by Kate Kelly of Middle Tyger-SC, who was only 0.29 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by producing an effort of 1 minute and 02.50 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Shannon Rauth of Upper Main Line-PA, who was 0.35 seconds apart and ended sixth in the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 02.85 seconds.
Rauth was followed by Maddie Rusch of New Canaan-CT, who was 0.12 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended sixth in the double lap discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.97 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Katy Luchansky of Wilton-CT, who stayed 0.30 seconds slower and reported an effort of 1 minute and 03.27 seconds.
Similarly, Luchansky remained 0.25 seconds ahead of Amanda McNulty of Middle Tyger-SC, who ended eighth in the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 03.52 seconds.
In addition, Weaver was extremely delighted with her astonishing pace and stated that she would continue her efforts to defend her title at forthcoming events.
