Courtney Weaver earns Women’s 100m butterfly gold medal: Day three – 2011 YMCA Long Course Nationals
Courtney Weaver of Gr. Flint-MI earned the gold medal of Women’s 100m butterfly meet on day three of the 2011 Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Long Course Nationals on Wednesday, July 27, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Weaver won the gold medal of the event in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 01.69 seconds. She was just 1.20 seconds slower than the national record of 1 minute and 00.49 seconds, set by Leah Gingrich of West Shore-PA in 2008.
Her time was 0.92 seconds faster than her following swimmer, Elise Lankiewicz of Brandywine-De, who stepped on the podium for the silver medal, by submitting a time of 1 minute and 02.61 seconds. Lankiewicz remained just 0.08 seconds faster than her strongest
competitor, Bailie Monahan of Rappahannock-VA, who stood on the podium by occupying the bronze medal of the event in 1 minute and 02.70 seconds.
She was followed by Katy Luchansky of Wilton CT, who stayed 0.28 seconds behind the bronze medallist and completed her swim in the fourth place, with a timing of 1 minute and 02.98 seconds. Caitlin Casazza of Northwest-NC transpired as the fifth best swimmer,
as she stayed 0.09 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 02.98 seconds. She was followed by Sara Beth Drake of Middle Tyger-SC, who ended her swim at the sixth place in 1 minute and 03.41 seconds.
Kate Kelly of Middle Tyger-SC was the seventh fastest swimmer, as she reported in a time of 1 minute and 03.57 seconds. Maddie Zimmerman of UpperMainLine-PA and Katrina Konopka of Middle Tyger-SC emerged on the wall as the eighth and ninth fastest finishers,
with timings of 1:03.61 and 1:03.80 minutes, respectively. Tori Oslund of W.North Carolina was the final swimmer to conclude her swim, as she ended her swim in a time of 1 minute and 04.36 seconds.
Weaver expressed happiness over her comfortable win in the 100m swim, whereas, she also said that she will try to maintain her spot in future championships.
