Courtney Weaver earns Women’s 200m butterfly gold – YMCA National Championship
Courtney Weaver of Gr. Flint-MI earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on fifth day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Friday, July 27.
Weaver continued her nerve-wrecking pace on closing day of the tournament as she proved her audacity for top spot of the distant butterfly discipline.
With her astonishing efforts, Weaver enjoyed an advantage of two body lengths over her closest competitor as she sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.34 seconds.
The champion was followed by Remedy Rule of Waynesboro-VA, who stayed almost 1.70 seconds apart and reached the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 15.01 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Morgan Carr of Huntington-WV, who remained 2.21 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade for bronze medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 17.22 seconds.
Carr was trailed by Amanda McNulty of Middle Tyger-SC, who was 0.79 seconds away from upsetting her and finished fourth in the event by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 18.01 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Astrid Swensen of North Shore-MA, who suffered a loss of 0.96 seconds from her foregoing finisher and reported a time of 2 minutes and 18.97 seconds.
The 15-year-old Swensen was chased by Emily Slabe of Countryside-OH, who remained prominent for sixth best spot of the discipline as she hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.74 seconds.
Slabe was traced by Elizabeth McDonald of Cheshire-CT, who was 1.10 seconds away and secured seventh fastest spot of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.84 seconds.
Similarly, McDonald was followed by Caroline Finkbeiner of West Shore-PA, who stayed significantly slower from her former finisher and settled on the wall as eighth position holder with the timing of 2 minutes and 22.60 seconds.
In addition, Weaver expressed happiness over her gold finish in the 200m discipline.
