Courtney Weaver seizes Women’s 50m butterfly gold: Day four – YMCA National Championship
Courtney Weaver of Gr. Flint-MI pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on fourth day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Thursday, July 26.
The audience enjoyed stupendous efforts of Weaver in the single lap butterfly discipline, as she gave no chance to her opponents to retaliate and finished first.
With her epic pace, Weaver remained more than half a body length ahead of her closest competitor and tapped the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 27.47 seconds.
The champion was followed by Maddie Zimmerman of Upper Main Line-PA, who remained 0.61 seconds apart and ended second in the event by posting a nice time of 28.08 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Morgan Contino of ME Lyons-OH, who stayed only 0.18 seconds slower from improving her position and tapped the wall with the timing of 28.26 seconds for bronze medal.
Contino was chased by Elise Lankiewicz of Brandywine-De, who stayed 0.14 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end for fourth position of the discipline by reporting a time of 28.40 seconds.
The 16-year-old Lankiewicz was traced by Shannon Rauth of Upper Main Line-PA, who stayed 0.12 seconds apart and secured fifth position of the discipline by reporting an effort of 28.52 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Molly Gaynor of Fanwood Scotch-NJ, who remained 0.32 seconds apart and ended fifth in the event with the timing of 28.84 seconds.
Gaynor was traced by Jenna Immormino of Somerset Hills-NJ, who was 0.15 seconds apart and occupied seventh position of the race by tapping the wall with an effort of 28.99 seconds.
Subsequently, Immormino was chased by Caitlin Tycz of Bath Area-ME, who suffered a loss of 0.16 seconds from her foregoing finisher and ended eighth in the event with the timing of 29.15 seconds.
In addition, Weaver was extremely satisfied with her performance in the shortest butterfly discipline and addressed her fans by saying that she would try to make a significant improvement in her pace for the forthcoming tournaments.
