Cover letter for acting resume?

So, I am sending a resume and photo of myself for a certain role in an upcoming TV show. I was reading up on this and it says to remember to write a 'breif cover letter'. I was wondering, what I should put in this? As in, should I just put why I want this part or why I'm fit for it? This is my first time doing this so... :/

tell them why your good for the role

but don't spend ages going over what's in you resume

just hit your points in a few clear sentences

and make sure its all properly formatted

(date/addresses etc/)
