I need help with a cover letter. The company is asking me to include my salary requirments in my cover letter and I have no clue how to start that sentence. Now it does say that they pay $11.11 to $13.53 and hour. And my last job I was laid off at 12.04. So How would I put that in a sentence that doesn't sound bad??? Hep please

  1. At the time of the Company's decision to downsize, which resulted in the elimination of my department, I was mkaing $12.04 per hour.

Getting laid off is OK...getting fired is not.

  2. You could just say something like "Willing to negotiate an acceptable salary for this positon." If you include a number you should give a yearly figure or an exact dollar amount. Either way, you should have something in mind to say if they ask you in for an interview.

  3. Keep in mind that salary requirements are mainly suggestions as to what you would LIKE to make.  They will make you an offer based on your history, experience and your salary requirement.

Go ahead and ask for whatever you want.  Go for the $12 or for the $13.50.

As far as your cover letter, I would say something like this:

I am excited to apply for the position of ________ with ____(company name)____.

Please review my attached resume, and feel free to contact me with any questions.  I believe you will find that I am as capable and experienced to fit this postition as I am enthusiastic about the opportunity.

I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Something like that.  Good luck :)
