Hi,

if a insurance company is not currently looking for a broker/customer service rep, what should one include in a cover letter. I am sending letters and resumes out and I am just curious.

Any help would be appreciated.

  1. proper grammar would be a first, when sending a letter to "an" insurance agency.

sorry but you asked...if they aren't hiring they aren't hiring it's as simple as that. I would think the impression you can make with your resume is going to make the difference. A cover letter informing them of what you are looking for in the job, or out of the job; while thanking them for their consideration, will make yours' stand out from the rest of the pack.

  2. Marie,

To be perfectly honest with you I think you would be wasting your time sending unsolicited resumes when you know the company is not looking to employ a broker/CSR.

As an agency owner I received many such resumes and kept them in a file for reference but because our agency had very low turnover few positions opened up.

Invariably, if a position did open up, when we called the person who sent the resume they had already found work.
