  1. Get a dumptruck load of mulch, and cover the whole thing with it.  It'll look good, and is the lowest cost option.

  2. Warehouse stores like Costco or Sam's Club have large cubes of WOOD MULCH.  But your better bet would be to buy it in bulk, like the bed of a pick up truck.  I had priced it a couple years ago and it cost $125.

You can get splinters if you walk barefoot on wood chips (but you can fold it into the ground when you're finished with it).

Go to an RV store.  They have large indoor/outdoor FLOOR MATS.  It's for use right outside of a trailer.  They run $30 to $80 depending on the size and quality.

The day before, you can buy 1 gallon potted flowers.  This can give your yard color and hold down the mats.  After the party you can plant the flowers in your yard or give them away to the party goers.

Ace hardware & Home depot has green and brown indoor /outdoor CARPET on rolls of 6 feet.  If you put several layers of newspaper under the carpet, the newspaper keeps the weeds from growing through the carpet.

You might consider buying or borrowing a Screened Gazebo Tent or two.  You can put the food out there with less bugs on it.

If the party is at night, you might want to buy Off Mosiquito Lamps or Solar Lamps.  They can be set on the ground or hanging from a stake.

If you have kids at the party, you can buy large pillows or bean bags from from a Thrift Store, throw them on the ground and have them eat from a sofa or other low table.

  3. How about artificial Turf. Check out www.southfloridaputtinggreens.com for some great ideas

  4. Sod? Perimeters in mulch or stone?

  5. sorry to tell you this  you dont want to here this but if you plan on doing some landscaping later  leave it alone cause all your gonna do is give yourself more work later

if you insist on something throw some grass seeds down
