Covering wood paneling?

Question

I want to cover wood paneling so that it looks like a normal wall. I don't want to paint over it because i don't want it to look like painted wood. Any ideas?

You can get paintable wallpaper just made for this.  It's thick so it hides the grooves.  You need to make sure you prep the paneling correctly so it stays on but once it's up, you can paint it.  Works fairly well.

by normal wall I'm guessing brick?

maybe you should get some ivy or a plant or something and drape it over.

i don't think there is a way to make it look like brick without painting it. sorry.

You have several options

1. spackle and fill in the grooves, sand it smooth and paint.

2. Cover with wallpaper , they sell a fibrous looking one that you can paint or paper over.

3.  Hang a curtain, check out pottery barn kids cable wire system

they go up to 20 feet.

4. I heard on walls you can use sizing and cover the wall with fabric. It comes down easy and does not ruin the wall. This was on HGTV room by room, a long time ago.

Jenna, what you are looking for is "drywall" applied over the paneling.  It's not real cheap, but will make the room look like a conventional room with painted walls.

You will need to get bids from a buiding contractor, or handy-man who does such things.  Be careful when dealing with handy-men...some aren't so good, and some are really excellent.  Get references.  DO NOT pay up front.  Never, never, never.  The job will not get done in a timely manner.  A partial payment is acceptable, but hold at least 1/2 until he's done and you are satisfied.

Point of interest...you can do this yourself.  You will need above average skills, tools and knowledge how to use them safely, and an ability to follow directions in "How To" books.
