Cowan out to prove a point – Cricket News Update
Australian Test opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan, believes that the only way to silence doubters is to score runs and is confident of achieving that when he takes the field for his country against South Africa in the imminent three-match Test series.
The left-hander was elevated to the top of the order following a purple match in the Australian domestic cricket with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s tour Down Under last year.
With his side in need for a suitable replacement for the out of form http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301, at the top of the order, where he went onto play seven consecutive Tests for his side.
However, his failure to convert starts into a substantial score – 74 being his highest so far – ensured that doubts remained over his position in the side. Nonetheless, he captained http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and emerged as his side’s leading run-getter in the two matches, scoring 181 at an impressive average of 60.33.
Back in the domestic setup this summer, things have not gone to plan so far, where he has yet to make a half-century in three Sheffield Shield games. Despite his mediocre outings, Cowan feels content with where his game is at the moment, but understands the need to score runs during the upcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. The first Test begins tomorrow, at the Gabba.
"One thing was coming in with runs last year and probably being a little disappointed to not score more," Cowan said. "This year I feel like I've been playing well but not got the big runs, but as frustrating as that is, I've known the judgement will come from here on. I feel like I'm in a good place technically and mentally to make runs, having seen what is required.
"I don't think anyone that has criticised me on how I'm playing this season has seen me bat, so I'm not particularly worried about that. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and the only way to really prove your point is to score, and make runs the currency that really counts."
