Question:

Cowboy's Moral Dilema #4 - The friends parents?

by  |  earlier

Dave is a 34 year old g*y man. In his teens, he fathered two children who are now 16. Unfortunately, the children's mother died some years ago and the children live with their grandparents a couple of hundred miles away.

Dave doesn't see his children that much - they have their own lives now, but he has a strong bond with his children, who are aware of and accept his sexuality. Dave's son Simon is coming to stay for a week and Dave asked Simon if his best friend wanted to come and stay too.

The friend really wanted to, but his parents were unwilling to let him stay at Dave's house, only because Dave is g*y. Dave feels really bad for his son.

  1. Dave should use this as a learning experience for his son.  The lesson Dave should teach his son is not matter what kind of a person you are there are going to be people in this world who will not approve of you for what ever reason they choose not approve.

  2. It is a shame that Simon's friends parents are so closed minded and uneducated.  But Simon's friend does not share their opinion and a friend is a friend...so Simon should not let this affect his friendship.  Dave could perhaps explain to Simon that some people just don't understand homosexuality and are to closed minded to try...and that it is not his fault or his friends fault : )

  3. Well, there's nothing to lose for Dave. So why bother backing off now?

  4. we shouldn't judge the parents for they reject the unfamiliar like common folk do lol... and there i am judging lol...

but i think it bothers them that dave is g*y only because of maybe this is what i think they think...

the things they've heard about the g*y community, and they like any other parent wouldn't want to expose their child to something they are not open to... or familiar with... or something that in their eyes might be wrong... or something they aren't comfortable doing

  5. The best friend's parents are concerned that their child will see two g*y men showing affection to each other much like a heterosexual couple would. However I don't know any couple regardless of orientation that would show inappropriate behaviour in front of children.

It is too bad the friend's parents are still of the opinion that two people who love each other should not be allowed to live together as a couple.

  6. I don't think that Dave should feel badly about this, because it isn't his fault. I know that he may think that "if i wasn't g*y, this wouldn't have happened" but in reality, it isn't his fault. It's not like he decided to be g*y just so that his son wouldn't be happy.

I think it's sad to see people that are that close-minded. I feel sorry for Simon's friend because his parents are restricting him from spending time with a friend for such a ridiculous reason.

  7. Dave needs to accept the other parents wishes without showing disgust so that his son picks up on it. Dave should talk to his son briefly about it, then carry on with other matters.
