Cowboys' running back DeMarco Murray out of the season with an ankle injury – NFL News
After the loss against New York Giants in the week-14 game of the National Football League current season at the Cowboys Stadium on Sunday, Dallas Cowboys received another shock when the news came out that rookie running back DeMarco
Murray, who fractured his right ankle in the game, is likely to sit out for the rest of the season.
“It was reported he had a fracture and it appears like he is gone for the season," Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett said.
In the first quarter of the game, Murray was tackled by Giants defensive end Dave Tollefsen. Unfortunately, the tackler fell over the rookie’s ankle, injuring and forcing him out of the game.
Murray is playing his first professional year. He replaced injured Felix Jones to become a starter and impressed everyone with his performance. Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones also called for playing him as a regular starter along with
Felix Jones after watching the rookie’s game-play.
This season, he has started seven games. He has rushed for a total of 164 receptions for 897 yards with an average of 5.5 yards per receive. He also has two touchdowns to his credit.
Felix Jones, who replaced Murray in the game, is now expected to play again as starter for the rest of the season.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was upset on the injury, but felt satisfied with the presence of Jones.
“DeMarco has been a big part of this offense and big part of this football team," Romo said. "We are lucky to have a guy like Felix, obviously, who can step in."
Felix Jones, who is playing his fourth season with the Cowboys after being drafted in the year 2008, has started five games this season. He has 90 receptions for 413 yards and one touchdown to his credit.
He also said that it was disappointing to lose a player like Murray. He appreciated Murray’s game-play and hoped that he would get well soon.
"First of all, all my prayers go out to DeMarco," Jones said. "He's a hard-nosed runner, a hard, tough runner, a great player, a great asset for the team. It's just unfortunate. I hope he gets well soon."
