Cowboys injured list grows
At this stage of the pre-season teams are not likely to play their first team players too much. Dallas Cowboy’s head coach Wade Phillips will not have much of a choice Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders with the number of players the team has expected to miss time due to injuries.
The tight end position has especially been hit hard forcing the team to convert fullback Chris Gronkowski so that Jason Witten will not have to play more than the team wants. Back-up tight end Kevin Brock had to be waived after he was hurt in order to make room for the team to sign DajLeon Farr. Farr had recently been waived by the San Diego Chargers.
Scott Sicko, who made news after the draft by initially refusing to sign a free agent contract with anyone, will have to sit out after suffering a concussion. Martellus Bennett has been out with an ankle injury; John Phillips is out for the season after tearing his ACL Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kick returners have been dropping like flies as well. Cornerback Cletis Gordon will not play against the Raiders due to a neck injury; Titus Ryan was waived Wednesday after breaking his thumb Sunday night against the Bengals. Bryan McCann has returned to practice after suffering a bruised chest, but may get held out still as a precaution. Kevin Ogletree and Manny Johnson will take over most of the return duties against the Raiders.
Also expected not to play are rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant and offensive linemen Montrae Holland and Alex Barron. On the defensive side, linebacker Sean Lee, safety Pat Watkins, tackle Sean Lissemore, end Marcus Spears, safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, and linebacker Stephen Hodge are expected not to see time againt Oakland.
