Cowboys’ running back Felix Jones misses practice for second straight day – NFL News
After missing the practice on Tuesday owing to hamstring injury, Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones once again failed to take the field as he watched his teammates practising on Wednesday from sideline, raising doubts regarding
his participation in the Christmas Eve’s game against Philadelphia Eagles.
However, the management is still confident that Felix will make it to the starting line-up on Saturday. According to running backs Coach Skip Peete, Jones’ performance will be monitored during the next few days before making a
final call regarding his selection.
“I am planning on him,” Peete said about Jones. “I am hopeful to see what he can do either today or tomorrow. But at the end of the week obviously we’ve got to be able to see whether he can do some things and make a decision on
whether he can play in the game or not.”
Jones also missed a few games earlier in the season due to injury and was replaced by rookie DeMarco Murray. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Murray ended his season after an ankle injury, which paved the way for Jones to become
starter again.
During the games against New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jones rushed for 106 and 108 yards respectively. Jones’ absence might hurt the Cowboys when they take on the Eagles in a must-win game.
Nevertheless, Coach Jason Garrett informed that Jones was present in all the team meetings and said that it was better to give some rest to the running back.
"It seems like he's getting better," the coach said. "We just felt it was the right thing to do today to not practice, and obviously keep him engaged with our team, and hopefully he'll get some work here in the next couple of days."
If Jones does not recover before the game, Sammy Morris will start. Morris, an 11-year veteran, appeared in the game against the Bucs for short time and managed 53 yards for 12 attempts.
Meanwhile, linebacker DeMarcus Ware and nose tackle Jay Ratliff, who had missed Tuesday’s practice session showed up on Wednesday and had a complete workout.
The Cowboys are leading the National Football Conference East division with eight victories and six defeats under their belt. They have two more games left in the regular season and they should win both of them if they want to
secure a playoff-spot. After the Eagles, they will take on New York Giants.
The Cowboys will have their next practice session on Thursday.
