Coyle expects Cahill exit
Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle says he expects defender Gary Cahill to leave the club in the near future after starting his England career.
Cahill won his first England cap when he came on as a substitute during the 4-0 demolition of Bulgaria last Friday. This is a very clear sign that he features in Fabio Capello's long-term plans.
Cahill may now seek out a move to a bigger club in order to give himself the best possible chance of having a long and gifted international career. However, Coyle says Bolton is not going to let him leave without a fight or on the cheap.
Coyle said: "There will come a day, and I hope it doesn't come in January, that Gary Cahill will probably outgrow the football club, given the finance involved in it. I firmly believe that he could play for any of the top four clubs. And if that day comes, then Gary would go with our blessing because he's been a terrific servant for the football club."
Cahill is an extremely talented young defender that has many skills and assets that have made him a big figure in the Bolton side. However, a move is something he will ultimately have to secure if he wants to step up to the next level.
Skills and assets
Cahill is much stronger than his physical appearance may lead you to think. This allows him to go shoulder to shoulder with some very big strikers in the Premier League. It gives him a much better chance of keeping physically bigger strikers at bay and his strength will only increase as he gets older.
He is very comfortable in possession of the ball, which is vital for any defender. This means he can quickly play a pass out wide or into the midfield in order to release the pressure on the back four that he's playing in.
Cahill is very good in the air, which gives him another edge in defence and it also allows him to attack going forward. This means he is something else for the opposition to worry about when he goes forward for free kicks and corners.
A bigger club
Joining a bigger club would mean that Cahill would have the chance to play with and against better players. It would give him the chance to play in Europe and he will only improve if he's playing regularly at the highest level.
The only possible problem that will stop him from joining a bigger club is if Bolton is too stubborn over his asking price. This can cause friction between the player and the club and this is an issue that Coyle wants to avoid.
He added: "The reason those clubs are in for him is because he's been playing consistently well for me as a manager. I have always said I have no qualms with anyone, as long as they pour their heart and soul into their job. He's different class when he does the simple things well and I think he'll go on to have a fantastic international career."
Betting advice
Cahill gives any side he plays in a much stronger defence. This means the defence is much harder to break down and has a much better chance of conceding fewer goals.
Never be afraid to have a punt on a defender that likes to get forward and attack from time to time. You will get very long odds on Cahill scoring in any game because he's an out and out defender but sooner or later it could net you a tidy little profit.
