Coyotes come up with a 3-2 win against the Capitals
The second game of Monday was hosted by the Phoenix Coyotes at the Jobing.com Arena. The game saw the home team up against the Washington Capitals in what was expected to be a very tough and tight encounter between the two sides.
No goals were scored during the opening period but Coyotes scored twice in the second period and once again in the final period to emerge as 3-2 winners of the game with Capitals scoring a goal in each of the final two periods. Ilya Bryzgalov, goal keeper
of the Phoenix Coyotes was named the star selection of the game for his 29 saves he made during the game.
Both teams made a slow start to the game as they waited for chances to come their way and spaces to develop. The other reason for the period not being so energetic was the fact that both teams looked to be on defensive mentality which hindered them from
coming up with the regular shots on goal.
Though there were a few chances for both teams to score and go on the attacks but they preferred not and most of the time fired shots from long range. The defence of both teams on the other hand came up with a brilliant performance cutting down attacks were
involved in constructing plays.
However, despite all the offensive hard working neither of the teams was able to score. The period ended with the scores were deadlocked on 0-0 with both teams making 5 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The second period saw the Washington Capitals start on sky high as they attacked right from the word go. There was a lot of strength in their attack which finally saw them scoring in the 9th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by
Marcus Johansson from a well placed flick shot.
However, the lead didn’t last long as the Phoenix Coyotes scored in the very next minute through Martin Hanzal from a well placed shot to level the scores once again. Coyotes were determined to get into the lead and in doing so came up with some superb plays.
The crowd was set wild as the Coyotes scored in the 18th minute through Ray Whitney during power play to get into the lead. Capitals finished the period firing shots on goal but they couldn’t score.
The period ended with the Coyotes leading 2-1 going into the break as they made 6 goal attempts in the period while Capitals made 17 goal attempts.
The final period started off with both teams coming up with a few attacks which intensified after few minutes. The first goal of the period didn’t take long as was scored by Vernon Fiddler in the 5th minute for the Coyotes.
Capitals managed to score in the very next minute through Matt Bradley to trail by a goal and despite the numerous more goal attempts made by both teams no further were goals were scored. The period and the game ended with the Coyotes winning the game 3-2
in the end. During the course of the final period Coyotes made 7 goal attempts while the Capitals made 9 goal attempts.
