Cozi Rosie scratched out of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf over a suspicion of an injury
After a pretty good 2011 season, Ann Moss and Jerome S. Moss’s 4-year-old filly Cozi Rosie will not be able to top the season on a high when her connections announced that she will be forced to miss the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf which is
to be held at Churchill Downs on 4 November, 2011.
The decision was taken on 29 October when the filly was found “off behind” according to Dottie Ingordo, the racing manager for owners Jerry and Ann Moss.
The John Sadler trained 4-year-old daughter of Pleasantly Perfect, out of Felidia by Golden Fleece, Cozi Rosie will undergo a nuclear scan test at Santa Anita for further evaluation on her condition.
The suspected injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Cozi Rosie, because the Breeders’ Cup is just around the corner and even if everything comes out fine, they would still have to decline a shot at Breeders’ Cup race.
The Kentucky bred filly had done so well all season, she only managed two wins out of six starts altogether, but her consistency is what stands out. Not finishing worse than third all season, Cozi Rosie finished second thrice and third in her six starts.
The winner of two Grade 2 stakes this year, Cozi Rosie smashed her competition in her season opener in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita Park on 21 February, 2011.
Under jockey M Smith who was aboard the filly all of 2010, guided her to her first win of the 2011 season over a distance on 1 mile, which the covered in 1 minute and 35.94 seconds, while Briecat and Malibu Pier finished second and third, respectively.
Her second grade 2 win came recently when she out finished Grade 2 John C Mabee Handicap under Garett Gomez at Del Mar at about 1 1/8 miles on 14 August, 2011. Cozi Rosie defeated Malibu Pier who finished second and Wasted Tears, third, with the winning
time of 1 minute and 47.69 seconds.
With Cozie Rosie missing the Breeders’ Cup, Sadler’s Breeders’ Cup disappointment continues as he lost three other candidates. Twirling Candy for the Mile, Zazu for Ladies’ Classic and Celtic New Year was not pre entered for the Breeders’ Cup Turf.
