Cozze Up Lady hoping to secure her second victory in the Indiana Downs Distaff Stakes
The Bret Calhoun trained, Cozze Up Lady, has an opportunity to land back-to-back victories after she bagged an Allowance Claimer at Churchill Downs on 8th June, 2012, where she was the mount for Jon Court and, completed the
1 mile course in 1 minute and 35.56 seconds.
Courtesy of her brisk pace and the guidance of her rider, she defeated, Kitty Wine, while the third place was secured by Volcat.
She was the frontrunner in this race, as she led from the beginning until the end, which has given her connections the confidence in her ability to deliver.
Calhoun appreciated the filly’s previous performance, after the race and he said:
“She is versatile and we didn’t necessarily want to take her to the lead in her last out.” The trainer further stated: “Jon kept looking around to see who was going to the front and nobody did. We just inherited the lead.”
Now, the sophomore is heading to Indiana Downs to compete in the $125,000, Indiana Downs Distaff Stakes on 11th July, 2012, where she will race over the distance of 1 mile.
The lightly-raced runner will be competing in her fourth start and, the trainer is pleased with her form as he commented:
“She is a very legitimate, good filly and this seemed like the best spot to have her.”
This time, the daughter of Cozzene, foaled by mare The White Lady, will be teamed with jockey, Miguel Mena. The change in command might affect the way the filly delivers, but the trainer looks optimistic as he said:
“She has good tactical speed, so we aren’t limited as to what to do with her.”
Owned by Martin Racing, Morgan Thoroughbred, Westwind Property, and Farfellow Farms, the three-year-old will compete against six other runners with the hope of taking home the money.
The Grant T. Forster trained, Silver Hustler, encountered Cozze Up Lady on 17th
May, 2012, in an Allowance Claimer at Churchill Downs, where the former won and the latter finished in fourth place.
