  1. There is no number "for credit only".  Your "credit profile number" at a credit bureau is your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for individuals, or your Employer Identification Number for a business.  These number are generated for free by the US government (Social Security Administration and Internal Revenue Service specifically).

I am aware that there are companies that will charge you hundreds of dollars and send you a nine-digit number on a vaguely official looking letter and call it your new credit profile number or maybe a credit privacy number.  This is a number made up by the company you paid and has no legal standing.  If you are asked for your SSN and you supply one of these fake  CPNs or anything other than your real SSN, as part of a credit application, you are committing credit fraud, which is a crime.

Credit bureaus are aware of these fake numbers, as well as the possibility of mistakes and transcription errors.  Therefore, they will identify credit files by a combination of number, name, address and other personal information.   They do not key on number alone.
