I'm in charge of the cooking and menu for my moms birthday on Friday. She'd love boiled crabs with melted butter. What should I serve with it? I need a dessert as well! Thanks!

  1. Fried Calamari, Raisin Rice.

Dessert: Fruit and Ice Cream. Simple and delicious.

  2. My favorite cracked crab dinner is simple.

    Cracked crab

    Melted butter

    Ceasar salad

    Hot sourdough bread

For dessert something like like lemon sorbert or vanilla pound cake with fresh fruit

Make sure to have lots of moist paper towels and empty bowls to toss shells in as this dinner can get very messy!

  3. Garden Stuffed Peppers

    4 large green peppers

3 or 4 fresh ears of corn

    1/4 cup chopped onion

2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

1 cup shelled baby lima beans, cooked and drained

    1 large tomato, chopped

    1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed

    Salt and pepper

Remove tops from green peppers.  Cut peppers in half lengthwise and remove seeds.  Cook peppers in boiling, lightly salted water for 3 to 5 minutes;  invert to drain.  Cut off tips of corn kernels.  Carefully scrape cobs with dull edge of knife;  measure 1 1/2 cups corn.  In covered pan cook fresh corn in a small amount of boiling, lightly salted water 12 to 15 minutes or till done;  drain the corn.  Cook onion in butter or margarine till tender.  Stir in cooked corn, lima beans, tomato, and rosemary.  Season green peppers with salt and pepper. Fill peppers with vegetable mixture.  Place in a 13x9x2-inch baking dish.  Bake the filled peppers in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.

    Blueberry Sauce For Cakes

    3 cups frozen blueberries, divide

    1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar

    1 tablespoon cornstarch

    2 tablespoons almond flavor liqueur

1 package or 1 cup frozen raspberries

    1/3 cup water, divided

    1 tablespoon water

Combine 2 cups blueberries, raspberries, sugar, and1/4 cup water in 2-quart saucepan;  stir to mix. Bring mixture to boil over midium-high heat.  Combine cornstarch and remaining water;  stir into blueberry mixture and return to boil.  Add remaining blueberries;  cook and stir gently 2 to 3 minutes or until thoroughly heated.  Add liquer and mix well.

  4. a nice resling

  5. If she likes pasta, a good tortellini or linguine with pesto sauce or Alfredo sauce would go well with crab. Roasted vegetables (I use zucchini, yellow squash, red, green and yellow sweet peppers, onions and broccoli) are good and add color. If you are not having a traditional birthday cake, I would suggest a berry cobbler or a chocolate lava cake.

  6. boiled potatoes and corn on the cob

    mac and cheese.

green veggie dish-steamed mixed veggies or green beans with bacon

salad-coleslaw, or a nice fruit salad

    dessert-your mom's favorite cake

  7. garlic bread

    corn

    ceasar salad

    cakes and goodies from safeway

  8. im from lousianna! serve it with some corn, crayfish, and some boiled potatoes. hey, will u save me a plate? hahahah

  9. do like a good ole crab feed:  spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and a nice rich chocolate cake!

  10. hmm maybe some garlic bread or pesto penne pasta with some string beans or spinach

for dessert maybe a chocolate mousse cake or just chocolate mousse or vanilla bean ice cream with some fruit salad

what ever floats your boat really=]

  11. good day,

    what about a Crab boil:

    new pototes

    mini corn on cob

    pearl onions

    crab - boil all together-

pull out on newspaper and pig out

I serve good french bread and lots of cold beer...

  12. mmmm crab....

if you look on the can of old Bay seasoning (the best!) there should be a recipe

(oh heck - look on line here:

    http://www.mccormick.com/recipedetail.cf...

    or here:

    http://www.old-bay.com/recipes_categorie... )

Boil up some shrimp/crayfish, small red potatoes, corn on the cob (1/2 pieces), bake some biscuits for the juices, and serve with pony beers (small bottles) {near beer for the under 12 crowd} and have a feast!

Best table decoration is is heavy layer of brown paper or newspaper and a couple of mallets.  Makes cleanup easy!

(You do know that the crabs are alive when you put then into the steamer, right?  We used to have races on the kitchen floor with our dinner before they were tossed into the pot!)

eta - Oops forgot about dessert - we're usually too full!  I'd recommend an ice cream cake to help cool the burn from the crabs!

  13. Rice pilaf and either steamed veggies or corn on the cobb.  For dessert, make some tempura/fried ice cream.
