Crab Orchard crush Faraway by 14-5 in US Open Polo Championship
Cambiaso-led foursome made it two in row, as it thrashed Faraway by 14-5 in the second round match of the United States Open Polo Championship being contested at the International Polo Club in Wellington, on April 2.
Cambiaso for the first time in the season showed an extra-ordinary performance, scored goals from every place of the field, and made a commanding victory possible.
Legendary polo pro of Argentina, Adolfo Cambiaso, through his performance proved that the king is still alive. In the recent performance, he certified why he is considered one of the best players in the world.
Cambiaso started the game quite aggressively and marked the first goal of the day through a long 150-yard spot shot creating pressure for Faraway. In the very next minute, he scored another goal from the field and doubled the tally. Lucas Monteverde managed
first goal of the game for Faraway. But another Crab Orchard goal went up on the scoreboard from Nachi du Plessis to end the first set of play with Crab Orchard holding a commanding two-goal advantage.
Plessis in the second round notched another score and expanded the lead up to three goals. In the later time, Luis Escobar of Faraway and Cambiaso exchanged one goal before going into the third set of play. The period ended with Crab Orchard sitting on top
with three goals, 5-2.
The third set of play was also dominated by Crab Orchard and scored another three goals, while holding Faraway scoreless. The trio of Crab Orchard including Hilario Ulloa, Plessis and Cambiaso carried out numerous attacks and put Faraway under intense pressure.
Ulloa connected on a penalty-shot, while Cambiaso added two goals to stretch the lead up to six points, 8-2 at the halftime.
The attackers of Crab Orchard continued to press the defence line of Faraway and took an insurmountable eight-point lead. Cambiaso was at his best form of the season and run with the speed of the ball. Monteverde managed a goal for Faraway but it could not
serve much to the team. Cambiaso and his team-mate, du Plessis, scored two and one goal respectively, and extended the lead to eight points, 11-3.
The inept defensemen of Crab Orchard showed an outstanding performance and could not allow the Faraway attackers to follow the ball.
In the second last frame, the resilient defence line of Crab Orchard kept Faraway off the scorecard, while its strikers managed a couple of goals in the seven and half minute action. Cambiaso and du Plessis added one goal each to put Crab Orchard ahead in
the way to success. Cambiaso-led foursome was hanging onto the field with a ten-score advantage, 13-10, with seven minutes left to play.
In the last set of play, Faraway cranked up its offence, but could score only two goals. It was the only chukka of the day which was led by Faraway. Monteverde and Escobar scored one goal apiece but these could not save them from defeat. Cambiaso in the
later time nailed another goal to seal their convincing 14-5 triumph.
