I have a lot this year in the back yard. Thick stuff and wonder if it's too late to have someone spray or if I can buy something to take back my yard. :-)

  1. Even though it's late and you may end up with large patches, my suggestion is that you clap on your ipod and pull them out as best you can by hand.  Get the clumps straight into a bag and in the garbage, don't leave them lying around. If you have lawn reseed or let your grass move into the pulled areas, and STAY ON IT.  Use chemicals as a last resort: you will still have to pull up the dead stuff anyway.  Gradually you will reduce the infestation.  Next Spring you can use a combo pre-emergent weed killer/fertilizer.  Check your grass carefully before mowing.  Keep pulling.  Gradually your yard will recover but you'll have to keep looking for those sneaky sprouts.   There is no easy way...May I recommend Sheryl Crow or Patti Griffin...?

  2. By now it's too late.  Keep the lawn mowed and the clippings picked up to lessen the seed heads.  Then next spring, actually late winter about the time the forsythia flower, apply a preemergent type weed killer.  Scotts Halt is a preemergent and fertilizer.  Once the crabgrass germinates, about the only thing that will kill it is MSMA which is real hard on the other grasses as well.  So best get that preemergent on early.

Crabgrass is an annual.  If you can break the reproduction cycle by stopping germination, you can get ahead

  3. too late this summer

  4. you can still spray the crab grass and kill it.

  5. I feel your misery.  Crabgrass has taken over my front yard. It's a constant battle keeping them out the flower bed.

It is too late in the season to do anything about crabgrass because of the maturity of the seeds.   I advise that you avoid using anything that require water to get rid of it.  Mature seeds aren't affected and will bury deeper in the soil for later growth. Save your money and water until early spring for this approach.  For now, I was advise to pull them up.  I tried a small area and I don't like it because it's patchy.

  6. BURN YOUR YARD!

  7. just put doqn some seed and be prepared to have the sprinklers running constntly
