What are the best safe guards for young people of today to be able to live and be free of these evils?

Its a self correcting problem to a large degree.  Let them kill themselves off.  Hopefully before they reproduce.

For starters, keep the lines of communication open...always. Take opportunities to talk to them about cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. If something comes up on a TV show or something you see when you’re hanging out with them, take that opportunity to let them talk and listen to what they are saying without judging. Don’t freak out if they say something you don’t agree with, gently guide them into talking about the dangers and why it is dangerous. If you don't know much about drugs, educate yourself so you can give them facts.  If any type of addictive behaviors run in either side of the family, let them know it. Explain it in a way that they may possibly be prone to also having addictive genes. It’s sort of like being allergic to alcohol or drugs, even though others may not get hooked that they could. Get to know their friends and monitor their computer usage. I also would get them in the DARE program at school Other than that, you just do your best, hug them often, tell them you love them and that they can always come to you (and you won’t freak out) with any questions they may have. And, then just cross your fingers and hope for the best. Addiction doesn’t discriminate, it can affect people from all walks of life.

You can only do your best and let them do the rest. Even kids who are raised in strong, healthy households fall victim to such things.

umm   if your dumb enough to smoke meth or shoot heroin you deserve to have ur life ruined by getting addicted.. i love to get high... smoke sum good weed or maybe get high off cough medicine...

and never will i touch a hard drug like coke,meth,heroin...

im sorry, but if someone knows the risks of drugs and chooses to use them anyway, its really none of your business.

it just really pisses me off that someone would try to take control of other people like that...

these "bad" or "street" drugs aren't nearly as scary to me as as the Pharmaceutical companies and their 'good' drugs and marketing media blitz
