Cracking action of the 2012 FIVB World League set to resume – Volleyball news
The men’s premier international volleyball competition, the 2012 FIVB World League, successfully completed its first leg from May 18-20. Next up, the action will resume on Friday, June 1 with Pool B matches.
Pool B of the 2012 FIVB World League is composed of teams from Canada, Brazil, Finland, and Poland. Canadian City Toronto hosted the first flight of matches at the Ricoh Coliseum, where all the matches saw huge turnout of fans.
A total of six matches were played, which created equal opportunity for all teams to catch the limelight. Poland and hosts Canada staged wonderful action and achieved 2-1 record at the end of the first week.
Both teams had the similar win/loss ratio but Poland moved to the top slot in ranking due to slight better percentage in the sets. Brazil and Finland, on the other hand, finished with 1-2 record and got hold of the third and fourth positions.
The Canadians had the competitive edge of playing with good support of fans. Despite having all the advantages, the team failed to take the leading role in the group and only ended up in second slot.
After the completion of first-week matches, the action is ready kick-start in Polish city Katowice. The second leg of the tournament will cover its length from June 1-3. Once again, the volleyball court will turn into a battlefield and only the better will
come up.
Hosts Poland and Canada will open the tournament whereas Brazil and Finland will meet in the second match on the opening day. The first match will surely be a thriller as Polish team is enjoying a top form. The Poles defeated Canadian team in front of their
supporters in Toronto in the first week, which will surely serve as a competitive edge for Poland. This time Poland will also have the advantage of playing under familiar conditions.
Apparently, all the factors speak in the favour of Poland. Nevertheless, the Canadian squad must have learned a few things from the last match. They will also try to take sweet revenge of the previous defeat. However, it is a mystery until the two teams
cross their ways on the centre court.
Brazilian team also has a lot of plans for the second-week matches. In the first week, Brazil played without a key player Murilo Endres, who has now returned in the team after recovering from the shoulder injury.
His presence in the team will further enhance the performance South American team. Finland will be an easy competitor in the first match but Brazil will have a tough challenge in the next matches when it will take on Poland and Canada. Check back for more
updates and news.
