Cracknell vows to cycle again after the injury
James Cracknell, the double Olympic gold medallist has vowed to join cycling again after healing from the injuries he had suffered in the last summer. While attempting to make an endurance record at Arizona in July; the former world champion was hit by a truck and suffered from serious head injuries which put him on the bed for coming several months.
While talking to an international news agency the cyclist said that physically he did not feel any major hindrance which could keep him from pursuing his passion again, however there happened to be few mental blogs which he was consistently trying to overcome. He determinately expressed that the injury had certainly not put him off the cycling at all.
Cracknell, the 38-year-old cyclist had an accident with a truck when he was attempting to cross the United States in eighteen days by cycling, running and rowing. The attempt was to be made for and televised on an international channel; however, he was not being filmed when the accident took place.
“Making most out of my life is my primary determination; after spending a lot of years while rowing in a boat which kept on grabbing most of my focus, it was really nice to roam around the world freely while using different means of transportation,” said Cracknell while he was giving his remarks at a cycling show in Earl’s court London.
Cracknell had made it to bag his first gold medal in the coxless fours at Sydney Olympics 2000; the race was made remarkable and memorable with the presence of Sir Steve Redgrave who won his fifth gold medal in it. Cracknell repeated the history of his golden performance four years later at the Athens event.
After winning the second gold medal in cycling, Cracknell eventually embarked upon a number of personal sporting challenges which included rowing across the Atlantic Ocean, Trekking to South Pole and participating into the gruelling Des Sables Marathon across the Sahara Desert which took place earlier this year.
While commenting upon his rowing experience the renowned multi-talented athlete said that though rowing had been gruelling, but one can only realize regarding how lucky one was to spend most of the time in such a thrilling sport, once one is no more able to do it again. He said that rowing was something which went on taking up his mind even when he was on bed and was desperately trying to heal from the injuries.
“If you would like to strike a balance between work and sports, probably it would prove to be a difficult task; it is indeed lucky of me to pursue my career as an athlete where I always have to do the incredible things where upon I would love to spend most of my time.” He further added.
Giving his remarks upon cycling, Cracknell said that for him, the performance of British cyclists had been rather impressive for last few years. He expressed his hope that further success would be following in the coming Tour de France.
He was of the view that since the British cycling contingent had been successful at Velodrome, the professional and much trained team participating in the Tour de France would help developing an understanding among the masses regarding what the cycling was like on the road side.
As for his own health was concerned, his doctors were of the view that physically Cracknell was perfectly alright and was capable of indulging into his tiring sports all over again, however, they showed their concern over the consequences of the head injuries. According to them, for him, it was better to spend some more time on bed and let his wounds healed up completely. Since Cracknell, along with Ben Fogle, one of his adventuring colleagues, has planned to attempt the record breaking bike ride from Canada to Mexico for an international media group, he wants to get rid of all the mental and health blogs to do with that rather confidently.
