I'm wanting to know if some fun, inexpensive craft ideas. My kids enjoy playdoh, painting, all sorts of cut and paste, drawing etc, but wanting some other ones o try. Its been so cold where we live, too wet to go outside, and I don't want the kids to get bored. I need it age appropriate for my daughter who's 4 and a half and my son is 3.

many thanks

  1. wow,you have a good start you have a computer and if you are teaching them at home these site are great they works for me.

First school (this site has templates all you do is cut them out)

    school express

for math try AAA math they work this site online

Basic handwriting for kids(teach them to write name ECT)

    Mrs Jones-free worksheets.

Make up a schedule for them such as math, witting, reading, learning sounds, music ,painting, then project time.

Music time take a trip to the dollar store, buy some instruments.get kids CD's such as B_I_N_G_O let them, make noise with the instruments, things like that and they will have a ball include bathroom time and washing hands time give them a snack in the AM,after lunch is nap time when they wake up bathroom, wash hands, reading time, then snack, back to bathroom wash hands and face, and after each meal brush teeth, space out your activities. your day will fly by,be sure to teach the 3yrs old sounds and letters and how to write and hold a pencil, the 4yrs old should already know letters and sound,go to k-mart pick up hooked on phonic I'm telling you I can do a commercial for them it works,my kids started reading at age 3,knew their letter and sounds at age two,it takes allot but you will enjoy how smart they are.Don't forget to give them free time to do as they please mainly play with their toys during free time and nap time you can cook dinner and clean up a little.Good luck you will have fun your a good parent.every fri go on a trip zoo, stuff like that,The library has free things for at home kids try that.Monday they can cook, tues project day,wed park day, thurs show and tell day,Fri trip day.save your big things for after nap time, becuase the day starts to speed up at this time.

  2. tell them to put clear plastic sheets around the toilet seat.

(it's a fast way to paint your bathroom yellow)

  3. Get lots of scrap wood 2X4, 1x4 2x2 4x4 etc. Sand them down to nice smooth surfaces and let them go at it.

The best inexpensive toy you will buy for free.

  4. Here is an idea that I am actually gone do with my kids for them to give out as x-mas gifts.

Take 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt and 1/2 cup luke warm water and mix it all together and then make into designs bowls or what ever you want I would probally do a batch per child then when it is all done you let it set out and air dry for 2 days or just put it in the oven on a cookie sheet on 200 for 2 hours then allow to cool and let them paint it.  Hope this helps

  6. You can make salt dough, fruit loop necklaces, and make cookies.  You could also give each child two paper plates and let them decorate them however they want.  Then staple the plates together leaving an opening at the top and fill it with dried beans or rice and then finish stapling and then they can shake them.   You could let them play with shaving cream as well.  Put some shaving cream on the table and let them draw in it with there fingers and smoosh it together.  The shaving cream is really easy to clean up.

You could also do marble painting,(line a cake pan with foil and place a sheet of paper inside.  Place several drops of paint on top of the paper and the put in the marble and shake the pan so the marble rolls through the paint.) Straw painting,(Line pan with foil place paper inside and put a few drops of watered down paint on the paper and then blow the paint around with a straw.)  Rain painting(when it is raining out side get a paper plate and put a few drops of food coloring and place it on the plate and watch the rain mix the colors together,  Yarn painting(Put the paint on the paper and have the kids place the yarn in the paint and then paint with they yarn.

  7. well have u tried finger paint?? it is a lot of fun! but be careful because it tends to get VERY messy.

u can also try paper mache where u dip toilet paper in a mix of 2 parts p.v.a. glue and 1 part water and make differnet shapes and the paint them.

maybe u can also decorate cheap frames with glitter and painted maccoroni!

    hope this was helpful!

    good luck =)

  8. How about using vegetables as rubber stamps. You can cut designs in half of a potato, plus you can use leaves of celery/carrots to make interesting designs not to mention for learning about colors and foods. It also makes vegetables fun. I know there are other veggies and food that can be used for this as well. Also using pasta for glueing on paper is fun, the different shapes and it's inexpensive. You can also paint the pasta creation when it's dry.

  9. Just go to wal-mart and look in the arts and crafts aisle. They have bags of goodies with feathers, pompoms, pipe cleaners, beads and more. You can make ANYTHING out of pipe cleaners. You can make jewelry, eyeglasses, spiders, what ever their imagination desires. Just twist them together and make colorful shapes. That 1 bag has days full of activities in it. There are also a lot of other things like staining glass, painting, making stamp pads... Buy some song and dance dvd's/movies. kids love to jump and dance.
