Question:

Crafts question (selling)?

Does anyone have any good ideas of a online place to sell my crafts besides ebay and etsy.com? Does anyone have any tips to go about starting a business in selling my own crafts? I don't like craft stores because they want to take an insane amount of your profit.

  1. You might try selling your crafts at local yard, or craft fairs. Sometimes there is a small fee to rent a table at these events. This gives you good local exposure and people get a chance to look, see and touch your work. You might also consider making up, or having made small business cards. Both my Mum, cousin and sister - in - law have sold handmade crafts this way. Sometimes this too can lead to you getting commissioned work, people asking for you to make things especially for them. Good luck with your endeavours, Jayne

  2. DaWanda.com is a venue for selling to European countries.

Folksy.com is geared towards selling to those in the UK.

Lollishops is a new venue that is geared to open this fall.  If you fit into their look & get approved  (it's a juried site) you can sell there.

  3. I sell mine from my own website. At first I started with a free website at Tripod.com but then upgraded to ad-free as the money started coming in. I pay $7.00 per month plus $9.00 a year for my dot com name. When I first started out, I put 7 different products on there. After a year it was obvious there were 2 things that sold well and that I enjoyed making. There was a 3rd thing that sold well but wasn't fun to make in large quantities. I used Google adwords for the first few months but then didn't need it anymore.

You do have to make sure your items are flawless and that it's something nobody else does, and that the customer would not be able to do for themselves. Also, your site has to be very professional even if it's on a free server.
