Crafty Cockney overridden by amateur darts players
With the rising popularity and fame of darts, the game has been able to effectively streamline itself to attract local attention.
This can be manifested from the fact that three local Kilflynn men were able to walk home contented after defeating the five-time champion Eric Bristow.
The veteran darts player was in the village to attend an exhibition and simultaneously tapping new darts enthusiasts.
In addition to this, another darts champion Crafty Cockney also attended the event.
Out of 25 players who contested in the exhibition, Sean Guiheen, Eoin Lynch and Jason Nolan were among the ones who showcased their skills and potentials in darts against the champions.
It is important to mention here that Cockney has been crowned World Champion in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1985. This is precisely the reason he is also termed as the icon of 1980's in darts.
Along with this, other prominent darts players attending the event included Peter Evison, Dennis 'The Menace' Priestley, Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd, Wes Newton, Brendan Dolan, Willie O'connor, Connie Finnan and Dean 'Over The Top' Winstanley.
The arrival of all these players, who are classified as the best from darts in their respective circuits, served as a token of encouragement for all the new participants.
Furthermore, the opportunity that they got while playing darts with all these stars represents the popularity and respect these players have been able to attain with the passage of time.
Mike Parker, the Chief Organiser of the exhibition, in the end, thanked all the participants who made it for the event to make the participation and arrival of Eric Bristow an unprecedented success.
He further commented, "Some players came close to defeating the 80's icon, but it was a great occasion for the three Kilflynn darts players who beat the sporting legend on the night".
He also shared that the arrival of iconic darts players will provide youngsters with the motivation that they require to effectively pursue their hard work and determination that they have for the game.
In the meantime, Mike is also short listing candidates who will participate for the Maurice Egan Memorial Darts Tournament scheduled to begin in some time.
